MBA exams consists of two sections:
1) Quantitative Ability
2) Verbal ability
Quantitative ability - Institutes like IIM-B give more weight age to Quant score.
Quantitative ability purely held on reasoning and data interpretation. Very few questions will be asked on pure mathematics which involves complex formulas. Data Interpretation is an integral part of Quantitative aptitude. Which involves tables, pi charts etc which mainly involves speed calculations.
As you are a working professional its not possible for you to spend 8 to 9 hrs a day on preparation. You will hardly get 2 to 3 hrs a day to prepare. So is it possible to schedule those 2 hours time for these many subjects?
Well lets discuss something about time optimization.
How to be so quick in calculations. You can not turn your brain into a super computer by burning midnight oil in one day. Its a continuous process. You can not fit a time table to become quick in calculations. While you are doing other activities you should practice this.
You can improve your calculation capabilities only when you are not writing the calculations on paper. Everything has to be set on air. Like a quick fire you have to imagine numbers and does the job. Make your journey time a best practice for improving your speed of calculations. Play with the numbers, Yes, you can actually play with the numbers in journey. Its a good time pass as well as improves your speed. On the road to office/ back to home, You will find umpteen number of vehicles daily, check the number plate of each vehicle. add them, square each of the number and add, cube the each number and sum it up and so on. Before a particular vehicle leave your sight do the maximum number of calculations. It will definitely helpful.
Always remember, interpret each number in the form of percentages and ratios. If you see number five the fraction form of this number i.e 1/20 should enlighten in your brain. So always look at numbers in this format.
Logical Reasoning is another key aspect in Quantitative ability. The best part of logical reasoning is everything is available in the question itself but identifying the required answer from the given question is a big task. Practicing more number of questions will make you used to logical thinking. Do the puzzles regularly. You can do the same in offices. You will find puzzles in online/news papers.
Verbal Ability : Verbal ability is another section in MBA entrance exams. To get a good score in Verbal you need to be a verbal lover. You have to be a command over more number of words. As a working professional preparing for this section is a bit easy.
You have to read hell a lot of English paragraphs. No matter what if it is a novel/news paper/entertainment news/ economic column. Make reading a habitual thing If you seriously wanted to kill this section. Reading
comprehension passages is one of the key element to be succeeded in this section. Your handwork put on this section never go to vain. If you got the calls from top institutes you have to go through various interviews and group discussions. So gaining knowledge from news papers will improve your
knowledge on current affairs.
You have to read the given paragraph in quick succession and understand it word by word while on the first read itself and grasp the essence of the paragraph when you reaches the end. Each RC should have a minimum of 3 to 4 questions. Synonyms and antonyms are the common part of this section.
